Kathmandu, Jan. 8: The Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) has demanded that the indigenous community be represented through the 26 nominated seats to the new Constituent Assembly.

At a press conference held in the capital on Wednesday, the Federation noted that the IP community was ignored in both the FPTP and PR system of the November 19 CA elections, and also warned of boycotting the election if the identity issues raised by the IP community were not considered in the writing of the new constitution.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of NEFIN Nagendra Kumar Kumal accused the political party of doing ‘trade’ in the name of the proportional representation.

The NEFIN claims that of the 59 scheduled IP groups in the country, only 20 groups have been represented in the new CA.

There are a total of 183 CA members representing the indigenous community in the new CA against 218 in the previous CA, adds the Federation. RSS
