Kathmandu, Dec. 24: The Election Commission (EC) has been requested again to extend the deadline for submitting the name list of Proportional Representation (PR) winning candidate by five more days.

Major political parties have urged the EC to give more five days to them for recommending the name of the winning PR candidates.

Leaders of the major parties who came out by signing a four –point agreement at the Peace Fund secretariat here on Tuesday, requested the EC to extend the deadline.

The major parties have reached a fresh agreement and we have urged the EC to give more time for submitting the name of PR candidates citing the need of additional time for selecting candidates  and taking further steps as per the agreement, CPN (UML) leader Raghuji Pant said.

Top leaders of Congress, UML and UCPN (M) reached the EC to meet Chief Election Commissioner Neelkantha Upreti with a request to extend the deadline.

The CEC was also briefed about the four-point agreement reached among the three political parties earlier today.

In response, CEC urged the parties to try their best to come up with the PR name list by Wednesday.

“It would be better to submit the name list on time rather than extending the deadline. We will take a decision on the matter tomorrow”, CEC Upreti said.

The second deadline set by the EC for the political parties for the recommendation of PR candidates is expiring tomorrow. RSS
