Many Madhesi leaders in Parsa face defeat in CA election

Birgunj, Nov. 28:  Many leaders of different Madhes-centric parties occupying positions in the higher echelons of their respective parties have faced defeat in the Constituent Assembly (CA) election held on November 19 in Parsa district.

Among them, some famous names have even forfeited their deposit amount as they could not the required minimum number of votes. A candidate has to secure 10 per cent of the total valid votes cast in his/her constituency to have the deposit amount refunded.

The candidates who forfeited their deposit include President of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Madhes) Bhagyanath Gupta, President of Nepal Sadbhavana Party and former minister Sarita Giri, General Secretary of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Republican) Sashi Kapur Miyan and the Joint General Secretary of the  Sanghiya Sadbhavana Party  Shiva Patel.

Gupta had contested the election from Parsa Constituency No. 1 and Bara Constituency No. 4. He has forfeited the deposit amount in both constituencies.

Similarly, Giri has forfeited her deposit amount in Parsa Constituency No. , Miyan from Parsa Constituency No. 2 and Patel from Parsa Constituency No. 3.

Likewise, former Minister of State Karima Begum who contested the election from Parsa Constituency No. 1 on a Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal ticket forfeited her deposit amount. She was elected to the Constituent Assembly from this constituency in the 2008 election.

The Central Committee Member of the Sadbhavana Party Firoz Miyan has forfeited the deposit amount in Parsa Constituency No. 2, Mohanlal Chaudhary Tharu from Constituency No. 4 and Mohammad Nijamuddin Samani from Constituency No. 5.

Also forfeiting the deposit amount in the election are the Central Committee member of the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party, Janardan Prasad Yadav, from Parsa Constituency No. 3 and Birendra Lal Nepali, Central Committee Member of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic) from Constituency No. 5.

Candidates of a dozen other fringe political parties have also forfeited their deposit amount. The District Election Office, Parsa stated that 94 per cent of the candidates have forfeited their deposit amount.

Two hundred and ten candidates of different political parties were in the election fray from the five constituencies of the district and 193 of them have forfeited their deposit amount. RSS
