PR candidates now reach 10,709 representing 122 parties

Kathmandu, Nov. 15: A total of 10,709 candidates representing 122 political parties are now in the fray for the 335 proportional representation (PR) seats in the next Constituent Assembly.

This is the final number after the Election Commission removed the names of 302 candidates who did not qualify for candidacy for various reasons.

Earlier, the names of 11,011 candidates representing the 122 parties had been submitted in the list PR.

Of the remaining candidates, 5,448 are men and 5,219 are women, according to information shared at the regular press briefing on Friday by the Commission Spokesperson Bir Bahadur Rai.

Accordingly, the UCPN (Maoist) has 332 candidates, Nepali Congress has 334, CPN-UML has 333, RPP Nepal has 330, CPN-ML has 332. They had all submitted the list including 335 candidates.

Likewise, the Tarai Madhesh Loktantrik Party has 100 PR candidates, Sadbhawana has 100, RPP has 318, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal (Democratic) has 271 and MJF Nepal has 100 candidates.

The entire country is regarded as one constituency and the PR seats are allocated as per the cumulative votes received by the parties in the election held for PR system.

The Office for the PR system of election is based at the Commission in Kathmandu, and Commission Secretary Nagendra Dahal is the Polling Officer for it. RSS
