Surkhet, Oct. 3: An acute shortage of cooking gas has occurred here just ahead of the Dasain and Tihar festivals.

The LPG shortage has existed since two months causing inconvenience to consumers. It is said there is demand for 12 thousand LPG cylinders in Surkhet in a month, but the supply has drastically gone down in the last two months leading to the shortage.

According to the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) which is responsible for LPG supply, only 7,845 cylinders were supplied in August and 9,632 in September. The NOC has been supplying the gas in partnership with three other private sector suppliers.

The Bheri Gas Udhyog, Banke, the authorized sales agent for the area, brings LPG from Baruni, India. It is said the LPG plant based in Baruni has stopped production at present for repair, leading to the short supply of LPG. RSS
