Symposium in poverty alleviation in SAARC to start on Wednesday

Kathmandu, Sept. 30: A two-day symposium on ‘best practices in poverty alleviation in South Asia’ is going to be organized from 2-3 October in the capital.

The participants in the symposium would discuss the steps carried out to uplift the livelihood and alleviate poverty in the SAARC countries.

During the programmes, the participants from the SAARC countries would exchange experiences and discuss the challenges of food security, use of microfinance, inclusive economic growth, women’s empowerment, family planning and other issues, SAARC Secretariat informed at a news conference here Monday.

Representatives of consumers’ groups from government and community levels of all SAARC countries would attend the two-day event where they are expected to consult the strategies to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and regional assistance for the investments and capacity building for the successful implementation of the projects.
