Damak, Sept. 30: A whole village of 45 houses in Majhi Basti (settlement) of Satasidham-7 in Jhapa district is without a single toilet.

The Majhi community people of the settlement use the Jharana river bank as their open toilet. Locals say they did not build one for lack of money.

The settlement of impoverished people make their living by wage earning, said a social mobiliser of Satasidham, Kumar Sanwa.

Some 225 people live in the settlement, but all of them are landless and have low awareness level. This is prevalent from quite a long time, said one Tek Bahadur Majhi.

Satashidham VDC Secretary Chhatrababu Ojha said the problem can be solved from the budget of the current fiscal year. District Development Committee (DDC) Jhapa can address it through programmes like ‘Bishweswor with the Poor,’ he said. RSS
