Education is a major tool for progressive transformation

Kirtipur, Dec. 27: Chairman of the Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi, who is also the Chancellor of the Tribhuvan University (TU), has said that education is the main tool for the progressive transformation of society.

Addressing the 39th Convocation Ceremony of TU here today, he said education is a major tool, the educationists and students the major actors and an educated and prosperous society the goal for bringing about progressive change and transformation of society in tune with the time.

Chairman Regmi said that the human resources produced by the Tribhuvan University which carries with it the longest history of higher education in the country have so far made significant contribution in key sectors both within and outside the country. It is expected that the university would produce capable, energetic and skilled human resources in the coming days as well, he added.

Stressing that education is indispensible for social change, Regmi said it is necessary to enhance the skills of our human resources in course of the development of education so that they would be able to work in all societies of the world.

Chairman of the Council of Ministers Regmi expressed the view that an environment was building up in the country whereby peace and stability would be sustained.

“New times have started in Nepal with the conduction of the Constituent Assembly election on November 19 in a free, fair and fear-free environment and with the maximum participation of people. With the success of the CA election, the time is nearing to take Nepal towards the path of peace, prosperity and development,” Chairman Regmi said.

TU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hira Bahadur Maharjan said that 6,722 students out of a total of 54 thousand 775 students who had graduated from the university’s 60 constituent campuses and more than 900 affiliated campuses have been conferred various degrees in the convocation today.

He said the TU was consistently making efforts towards progressive transformation by making it more systematic and transparent in the changed national and international context.

Vice President of University of Xihua, China, Prof He Jianping said that as the oldest university of Nepal, TU has made important contribution to the development of education in Nepal. He stressed that the university should work towards producing skilled and capable human resource that could make active contribution to the social and economic development of the country.

On the occasion Chancellor Regmi conferred the degree of Ph. D. on 34 people under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, on seven persons under the Faculty of Science and Technology, on one individual under the Faculty of Law, on two individuals under the Faculty of Education and on seven persons under the Faculty of Management.
