Kathmandu, Oct. 29: Some leaders of four major political parties have signed on the commitment paper to make the new constitution to be human rights friendly.

The Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) has launched a campaign to make new constitution compatible with internationally accepted standards of human rights.

Among the leaders signing the commitment paper are  Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai, Bishnu  Prasad Poudel, Pashupati Shamsher JB Rana, Balkrishna Khand, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Surya prasad Pradhan and Sher Bahadur Gautam Kshetri.

The campaign has been launched with the slogan ‘All Rights for All’ and pressure will be exerted to enshrine the provision in the preamble of new constitution, stated the commitment paper.

Likewise, equal rights for women and children and liberation from  slavery and death penalty, among others, will be mentioned in the statute to guarantee fair and accessible of legal rights.

The commitment paper has stressed the need to guarantee various 50 rights including the right to privacy, property, freedom of expression and opinion, religion and freedom of the press, said a press release issued by HURPES Chairperson Homkanta Chaulagain. RSS
