Kathmandu, 7 April – A meeting of the office bearers of the ruling Nepali Congress has decided to bring the bills on truth and reconciliation commission (TRC) and enforced disappearances based on process and consensus reached so far by holding discussions.
Both the bills should be in line with the 12-point agreement, the comprehensive peace accord, the Interim Constitution of Nepal-2063 and the directives of the Supreme Court issued in relation to draft of the bills, Nepali Congress joint-secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka said.
The meeting was held at Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.
Khadka said the meeting discussed about converting the decade-long insurgency into reconciliation and bringing to book those involved in heinous crimes.
Khadka said that the bills would be given a final touch after a three-party meet scheduled this evening, adding that three major parties have forged consensus regarding the bills.
The three parties have formed a six-member taskforce comprising two leaders from each to finalize the drafts of the bills after the UCPN (Maoist) expressed its reservations to the draft of the bill prepared by the government.
Likewise, appointments in the National Planning Commission and administering of the oath of office and secrecy to minister-nominees from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and CPN (ML) were also discussed at the meeting.
