Kathmandu, Nov. 17: The Election Commission has issued an order against 16 media to furnish clarification within 24 hours for violating the election code of conduct.
Among them, there are 11 daily newspapers, four weeklies, and a television.
The EC informed this issuing a press release on Monday but did not mention the names of media that were sought clarification.
The press release issued by EC Spokesperson Bir Bahadur Rai mentioned that the media were sought clarification based on the monitoring conducted by the EC’s monitoring unit.
The silent period had begun from Saturday midnight. During the silent period, the political parties are banned to conduct election publicity as assembly, gathering and other activities that influence voters. And during this period, the media too can not disseminate any publicity information about any political party or leader.
The ‘silent period’ as the election code of conduct issued on Saun 7 by the EC is ‘period from 48 hours ahead of the day of voting till the closure of the voting’.
However, during this period, the media can disseminate the news and information provided by the EC.
One More Day for Voter ID distribution
The Election Commission has directed the polling officers to distribute the voter identity cards even on Monday.
Earlier, the EC had fixed the time till Sunday for the distribution of the voters’ identity card.
There are a total of 12.14 (12,147,865) voters for this CA election. The distribution of the voter identity card was begun from November 15.
Meanwhile, the EC said two ballot boxes looted on Sunday night while being ferried to the polling centres of Ankada VDC in Nuwakot district were recovered by the security on Sunday morning.
Similarly, as many as 1200 information (news) related to election were collected from the Call Centre set up by the EC since November 14, said the EC. RSS
