Officials reach polling stations with election materials and security provisions

Kathmandu, Nov. 15: Most of the officials have reached the polling stations with election materials and security provisions across the nation for the November 19 Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.

According to the Election Commission (EC), a total of 68 types of election materials are required for conducting the elections while 215,000 officials have been deployed in 18,457 polling centers across the nation, Election Commissioner Dolakh Bahadur Gurung said at the special media briefing held at the EC on Friday.

Gurung said that altogether 12.14 million voters would exercise their franchise and 6,128 candidates are contesting for the first-past-the-post electoral system and 10,709 for the proportional electoral system.

He also added that all preparations have been completed for conducting the elections in a free, fair and credible manner and urged the voters to use their franchise in a fearless manner.

Commissioner Gurung further said that security has been provided to the candidates, representatives of political parties, voters, officials, poll observers and all concerned through the integrated security plan.

Gurung said that present security provision is focused on security for candidates, political parties, polling stations and voters and security system of three circles has been arranged for the security of voting stations.

He also said that Nepal Police in the first circle, Armed Police Force in the second circle and Nepal Army personnel would be deployed in the third circle for the security of the polling stations.

At least seven security personnel would be deployed in each polling station.

Likewise, patrolling and air patrolling teams have been arranged and additional security forces would be deployed within two to 10 minutes in any polling stations if need be, Gurung said.

On the occasion, Gurung said that distribution of voters’ rolls has started in all constituencies and citizenship, driving license, passport or other identity cards issued by the state-owned agencies would be acceptable in case the voters’ roll were not provided to the voters. RSS
