THIS YEAR’S CHHATH ON NOVEMBER 8 NOT 9

Kathmandu, Nov.5: A tea reception and greetings exchange ceremony was organised at Ranipokhari Tuesday on the even of the Chhath festival, one of the greatest festival of Hindus. The programme was organised by the Mahaparba Chhath Celebrations Committee.

UCPN (Maoist) leader and Kathmandu constituency No 4 candidate for the Constituent Assembly (CA) election Nanda Kishor Pun Pasang was among those joining the reception.

On the occasion, he said the festivals being celebrated in Nepal like Deepawali and Chhath have helped maintain fraternity and social harmony in the country.

Committee Chairman Engineer Ramchandra Shah, general secretary Ananda Kumar Gupta, programme coordinator Sanjib Kumar Singh and Rajesh Jha highlighted the cultural, religious and social importance of Chhath.

According to the committee, this year’s Chhath festival begins from November 8, Friday rather than November 9 as mentioned by the Nepali calendars.

The Chhath festival- 2070 BS falls on November 8 and 9, the committee said, demanding the government give the public holiday on Chhath festival on November 8.

November 10, Sunday is the Gopasthami and Argha to the rising sun could not be offered on that day and so the Committee has formally requested the Home Ministry to give the Chhath holiday on November 8. RSS
