Kathmandu, Oct. 10: Chairman of the CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal has said that the UML has lost an energetic and able leader in the demise of Mohammad Alam.

Speaking at a condolence meet held at the party office in Balkhu on Thursday, Chairman Khanal described the late Alam as an untiring fighter of Nepali communist movement and lauded his dedication and contribution to the Nepali democratic movement.

Khanal also said that Alam had a special contribution in increasing the awareness of the Nepali Muslim community and establishing the rights of the Muslims as well as Tarai people.

On the occasion, the UML Chairman said that his party had concluded that the recent spate of killings of political and social personalities was a matter of serious study.

Alam, who was the party’s candidate from Bara constituency no. 4 for the upcoming CA elections, was shot at his home town Bara last Friday. He succumbed to his injuries at the TU Teaching Hospital earlier today.

Alam’s body is being taken to his hometown Parwanipur of Bara for final rites, according to the party. RSS
