Development of tourism essential for economic progress: Minister Shrestha

Kathmandu, Oct. 9: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ram Kumar Shrestha has said economic progress of the country was possible through the development of tourism.

Taking part in an interaction programme on the development of touristic heritages in the far-western and mid-western regions organised by the Advance Monitor Publication, Minister Shrestha said the government was committed towards the development of tourism sector in these regions.

He said the government has a plan of constructing an airport suitable for the people of Baglung, Parbat and Myagdi in partnership with the private sector.

On the occasion, the Tourism Minister honoured tourism entrepreneurs JB Singh and Hari Malla. Chairman of the Trekking Agency Association of Nepal (TAAN) Ramesh Dhamala, Mountaineering Tourism Academy Director Lhakpa Futi Sherpa and TAAN former Chairman Chhiring Sherpa stressed that the infrastructure development of far-west and mid-western regions should be the common priority of the public and private sector.
