Domestic production needs more promotion: Finance Minister Koirala

Kathmandu, Oct. 7: Finance Minister Shankar Prasad Koirala has said Nepal was in need of promoting the domestic production because only productive economy would boost the national development.

Addressing a review meeting and strategic programme organized by the National Domestic Industry Development Committee in the capital city today, Finance Minister Koirala said that the government was ready to make necessary changes in policy and legal sector for the development and promotion of local products.

“Production of honey, knife and allo has gained national popularity,” he said, adding that establishment of goods promotion centre, handicraft village and SAARC handicraft exhibition centre would be very important achievements.

According to him, the Industrial Act has already been enforced and government was bringing an industrial entrepreneurship act through ordinance within few days. He expected that it would help solve many problems of the industrial sector.

“Initiatives have been taken to equip the office of the domestic industry, and empower office chiefs with authority,” added Minister Koirala.

On the occasion, Chairman of the Federation of Nepal Domestic Industries, Suresh Pradhan, pointed out a need to focus on agriculture, forest, mine, tourism and renewable energy.

Director General at Department of Commerce, Narayan Bidari, and Director General at Domestic Entrepreneurship Committee, Bogendra Sharma Poudel, said although the domestic products have contributed a lot to the national development, it was yet to get proper attention. RSS
