Kathmandu, Oct. 6: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the government, political parties and stakeholders to ensure people’s right to be elected and cast vote in a free and fearless environment.

Expressing serious objection to the murder attempt of Mahamud Alam, candidate of CPN (UML) from Bara Constituency No. 4, the NHRC has said that people’s right to take part in the election in a free and fearless manner has been challenged.

Issuing a press statement, the NHRC has also urged the government to book the persons involved in the shoot out.

Stating that the NHRC inquired about the health condition and treatment of Alam, the NHRC also said that Alam’s health condition was critical.

The NHRC said that International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, 1966, different international conventions signed by Nepal and fundamental rights ensured by the Interim Constitution of Nepal 2063 BS were violated by the incident. RSS
