FINANCE MINISTER SEEKS MORE SUPPORT FROM US

Kathmandu, Oct. 4: Finance Minister Shankar Prasad Koirala has urged the US Government to provide more assistance to Nepal under the ‘Millennium Challenge Corporation’.

During his meeting with the US Ambassador to Nepal, Peter W. Bodde at his office at Singha Durbar today, the Finance Minister stressed that developed countries should increase the aid being provided to the countries with weak economic condition.

Stating that there was a high potentiality of good market for Nepal’s agro products like coffee and tea in the US market, Minister Koirala drew the attention of Ambassador Bodde to that end.

On the occasion, he informed Ambassador Bodde of his upcoming visit to the US and said during the visit, which is beginning within the next few days, he would hold parleys with the US officials about bilateral relations and possibility of expansion of economic and trade areas.

The incumbent government is working to create appropriate economic atmosphere for the government to be constituted after the Constituent Assembly ( CA) election, the Finance Minister underlined the need of cooperation from the international community to that end.

In response, Mr Bodde said he was positive towards the issues raised by the Nepal Government, adding the international community desires to see improvement in the public financial management in Nepal.

He expressed the hope that foreign assistance policy being developed by the government of Nepal would further contribute to Nepal’s development. RSS
