18th SAARC Summit concludes adopting Kathmandu Declaration

Kathmandu, 27 Nov- The 18th SAARC Summit has concluded this afternoon in Kathmandu by adopting the Kathmandu Declaration 2014.

Prime Minister of Nepal and Chairperson of the 18th SAARC Summit, Sushil Koirala declared the the Summit’s conclusion, terming it a successful summit.

In his concluding address, Prime Minister Koirala expressed profound appreciation and gratitude to all the heads of state and government for their cooperation in holding the present in the Summit.

 PM Koirala said that the SAARC nations should decide what type of SAARC we want and the kind of reform in it.

The PM said that commitment and shared responsibility to establish stability and prosperity in the SAARC region was needed. “We will be able to bring tangible progress in the region through cooperation and partnership,” he added.

 Better connectivity is lifeline of any region to promote trade and people to people contact, the PM said.

Despite abundance of resources in the region, why the people of the region should remain in the chain of dehumanizing poverty, Koirala observed.

Peace and prosperity is reflected in the common aspirations of the SAARC member countries, the PM said in his concluding remarks.

 Likewise, Koirala said that growing interest of many countries to engage with SAARC is the testimony of its significance.

He also said that regional cooperation was effective and mutually beneficial for peace, harmony, and stability.

Earlier, the foreign affairs ministers of the SAARC member states signed the SAARC Framework Agreement on Energy Cooperation and Electricity.
