Surkhet, Nov. 27: Four educational institutions here have concurrently started running courses in Bachelor in Business Studies (BBS) less than a year after the Mid-western University started the BBS programme.

Three private colleges and a public higher secondary school started running the BBS programme to compete with the MU, taking advantage of the continuing political dispute in the university, according to the local intellectuals.

The new private colleges have started BBS programme in affiliation with Tribhuvan University (TU), the country’s oldest university. It was stated that the two colleges run under the TU here – the Surkhet Education Campus and the Birendranagar Multiple Campus – would be merged with the establishment of the Mid-western University.

The Gyan Sindhu (GS) Surkhet College, Siddhapaila Campus, Sahara Campus and the Amardeep Campus have taken affiliation from TU and have called for new admissions under BBS programme from this academic session.

It is said the fees determined for the BBS courses by the Mid-western University is exorbitant and the students there are holding protests. Cashing on this uncertainty, the four colleges have offered the BBS courses thinking that they would be able to draw maximum number of students, said a local scholar. RSS
