Kathmandu, Nov. 16: Chief Election Commissioner Nilkanha Upreti has said that all preparations including security provision for November 19 Constituent Assembly (CA) polls were completed.

“All types of preparations have been completed. Security provision is also good. We are ready to accomplish a great function to institutionalize the democracy,” the Chief Election Commissioner said.

At a programme organized by the Reporters’ Club in the capital today, Upreti urged the voters to cast vote in a fearless manner on November 19 as the poll boycotters have also vowed not to obstruct the voters.

Chief Election Commissioner Upreti also informed that the silent period would start from Saturday midnight and the publicity campaign would also end for the political parties and candidates.

On the occasion, Upreti urged the voters to be ready to go to the polling centers to cast vote with voters’ rolls or citizenship or other identity cards issued by the state-owned agencies in case the voters’ roll were not provided.

He said that over 400,000 human resources including 200,000 security personnel have been deployed to conduct the polls and added that he was confident of completion of the CA polls in a historic way to institutionalize the changes brought about by the people’s power.

Asked about security challenges, the Chief Election Commissioner said that giving terror to the common people and attacking them ahead of the polls is a misdeed. “The government should book the terrorists and persons spreading fear and terror. Citizen also should boycott such activities,” Upreti added.

Upreti said that some efforts were made to make the polls disable-friendly and some polling stations were made the disable-friendly by targeting the differently abled-persons. RSS
