Chitwan, Nov. 3: A female rhino of the endangered one-horned species was found dead in a banana plantation in Padampur in the east of the district on Saturday.

The locals informed the District Forest Office after they spotted the dead rhino in a banana plantation near the Bhimawali Community Forest at Padampur VDC-5.

The office deputed a technical team to study and observe the area and record the death of the wild animal. Locals say the horn and the hoof of the rhino were intact.

It is said that the rhino might have met a natural death. Two rhinos died natural death in the months of Saun and Bhadau in the district.

Spokesman of the Chitwan National Park Tikaram Poudel said that no rhino has been killed by poachers in the last one year. There are 503 rhinos in Chitwan as per the latest census. RSS
