DIGP Thapa be made IGP: Right activists

Kathmandu, Oct. 18: Women right activists have suggested the government to appoint Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Parbati Thapa, as the 20th Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The activists said Thapa should be appointed as the IGP for Senior Police Officers including IGP Kuber Singh Rana are retiring from November 15 as per the existing Police Act and Thapa was senior among others.

In this regard, the activists have submitted a memorandum to the government and senior leaders of the major political parties demanding that Thapa should be given the responsibility appreciating her 29-year-long contribution to the Nepal Police.

Chairperson of Women Pressure Group, Sharada Sharma and other women activists including Krishna Kumari Waiba of the Federation of Indigenous and Janajati Non-government Organization, Durga Sob Chairperson of Dalit Women Association Nepal, Subhechha Bindu Tuladhar of the Working Women Journalists expressed such views at an interaction in the capital on Friday.

They said none should be prevented from getting the responsibility violating the natural and existing police laws. RSS
