khagaraj-adhikariKathmandu, 7 Dec- Minister for Health and Population Khagaraj Adhikari has urged doctors receiving perks and benefits from the state not to undermine citizens’ right to health.

At an interaction programme organized by Association of Youth Organizations of Nepal (AYON) on ‘My Health: My Right’ here on Sunday, Minister Adhikari said that guaranteeing people’s right to health has not been established with the reluctance on part of city-centered doctors receiving salary from the national treasury to render services in the designated area.

Expressing concern that the Nepal Medical Association came up with protest when he directed the government doctors to provide services to the people in remote parts of the country, he said there is no rationale of the health ministry if doctors do not comply with the state policies.

He stressed the need to increase tax on tobacco to check its consumption and asked for necessary cooperation from the Ministry of Finance and Law to prevent the production of tobacco products.

Nepal has gained substantial progress in reducing maternal mortality rate in recent years, he said, adding the government would place top priority to women health issues in coming days.
