
Kathmandu, Oct 31: The National Cricket Team has returned home today clinching the title of the ICC World League Cricket Division 3 held in Malaysia.
Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Chudamani Poudel, Member Secretary at the National Sports Council Yubraj lama, Chief Executive Officer at the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Bhawana Ghimire, cricket lovers, among others welcomed the Nepali Cricket Team at Tribhuvan International Airport ( TIA) in a grand manner.
On the occasion, Member Secretary Lama said although there were many problems in the CAN, the National Cricket Team was able to achieve the success with the support and collaboration of CAN. Lama expressed commitment of moving ahead towards resolving the problems surfaced in the CAN.
Stating that the players achieved this success due to the hard work of the team, Coach Pubudu Dassanayake said they would move ahead by holding a special discussion with bodies concerned after formulating an extensive plan as future days are very important for cricket.
Team captain Parash Khadka said the team had to labour hard to repeat its success story. Nepal had the pressure of proving its capacity in all matches after its first match with Uganda as it faced a defeat in the match.
Nepali cricketers’ hard work and confidence was credited to its success to clinch the ICC World Cricket League Division 3, he shared. But, with this tremendous achievement in foreign land, the Nepali cricket has additional challenge in the days ahead to maintain its prestige. He stressed the need of restructuring overall national cricket mechanism. The days ahead are very important for Nepali cricket and we should go ahead with a better planning for its promotion.
Nepal is going to participate in the ICC World Cricket Division II to be held in Namibia on coming January. Besides Nepal, Uganda, Kenya, Namibia, Canada and the Netherlands are playing in the league.
Nepal won the title defeating Uganda by 62 runs in final. Nepal had created its successful history in world cricket by clinching the title for the first time in the 2013 Bermuda ICC World Cricket League Division III. It had bit Uganda in the previous league also.
A large number of cricket fans reached TIA to welcome the national team. They demanded the construction of an international standard cricket ground at home. They chanted slogans praising Nepal’s success in the league.
