Kathmandu, April 16: Deputy Prime Minister Bamdev Gautam who is also the vice chairman of the CPN (UML) has said that the party leadership would be handed over to the new generation from the party’s forthcoming ninth general convention.
Speaking in an interaction on the present condition of agriculture and the future course of action for the commercialisation of agriculture organised by the All Nepal Peasants Federation here today, he said, “Now, there should be the transfer of leadership in the UML. An individual cannot remain in the leadership position for long. We should choose a unanimous leadership this time and the leadership will be handed down to a new individual as there is also a strong possibility of the same.”
Vice chairman Gautam said the same person who has been leading the party following the death of Madan Bhandari trying to continue the same leadership is objectionable.
“The new generation should now takeup the party’s leadership. There is going to be a debate in the forthcoming general convention of the party between one side advocating for handing over the party leadership and another side opposed to this. The leadership handover that will take place through the general convention will steer the party ahead in a unified manner,” he asserted.
On a different context, Deputy Prime Minister Gautam said that the government was committed to issuing a new constitution within a year, expressing the confidence that some disputes seen of late in connection with constitution writing would be resolved soon.
He also stressed the need of industrialisation of the agriculture sector for the country’s development. RSS
