Kathmandu, Dec. 7: The Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML – who became the first and second largest parties from the November 19 Constituent Assembly (CA) election – have officially agreed to take up current political responsibility by acknowledging the recent poll results.
In the first formal dialogue held between top leaders of two parties after the CA election today, they made a written agreement to move ahead together with mutual understanding and collaboration to complete the political responsibility.
The two parties have also reached an understanding to immediately initiate dialogue with other political parties including the Unified CPN (Maoist).
NC President Sushil Koirala and UML Chairperson Jhalanath Khanal signed the three-point decisions including moving ahead together on mutual understanding after around four-hour talks held at Peace Fund Secretariat in Babarmahal, Kathmandu this evening, stated a joint press release issued by the two parties.
The first decision of two parties is to express sincere thanks to all sides concerned for the successful holding of free, fair and impartial CA election on November 19.
After holding informal talks with Unified CPN (Maoist) from the meeting venue of the two parties, leaders of the UCPN (Maoist) and the NC are having meeting at the residence of UCPN (Maoist) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday morning.
The meeting was set for the largest party to hold formal discussion with UCPN (Maoist) in the context when the latter including other parties are putting forth some conditions before entering the CA citing election riggings.
Most probably the leaders of UCPN (Maoist) and CPN-UML would sit for dialogue on Sunday after the talks between the NC and UCPN (Maoist).
Talking to journalists after today’s meeting, NC Vice-President Ram Chandra Poudel said the NC and UML would make strides together in a collaborative manner by holding talks with other political parties including UCPN (Maoist) on current political situation.
Asked what was discussed about power sharing deal including election to nominate new President, he said the matter was not featured in the talks held today.
UML General-Secretary Iswor Pokharel said that the two big parties formally reached a consensus to move ahead together albeit there was no decision on power sharing deal.
The two parties would also hold dialogue with CPN-Maoist front, a breakaway faction of the UCPN (Maoist), which has been demanding the roundtable conference for political outlet to the country.
Today’s meeting was attended by President Koirala, Vice-President Poudel, General-Secretary duo, Prkash Man Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Treasurer Chitra Lekha Yadav and Joint General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka from the NC while UML Chair Khanal, senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Vice-Chairperson duo, Bamdev Gautam and Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Generral Secretary Pokharel.
