Kathmandu, Nov 4: The United Nations is to impart training to 36 graduate youths from the socially excluded communities for 11 months for enhancing their professional skills and competency.
These youths, selected through competitive exams from among the 1437 applicants throughout the country, were taken in as UN interns amidst a function held at the UN House in Lalitpur today.
Each trainee will work in a UN Office for an 11 month period with a full time training assignment which will provide candidates with the opportunity to improve their professional skills and competencies, the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office stated.
According to the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, opportunities for the trainees are available in the areas of general administration, programme/ project development and management in the areas of Poverty Reduction, Environment, Governance, Peace Building, Child Protection, Nutrition, Health, Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Social Policy, Education, HIV/AIDS, Gender Equality & Social Inclusion, Population, Monitoring and Evaluation, Human Resource Management, Finance, Information Communication Technology, Logistics, Supplies Procurement and other UN related themes.
Addressing the programme, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nepal, Mr Jamie McGoldrick, said the UN Agencies in Nepal launched this programme to give a chance to recent university graduates from socially excluded groups to get professional experience in an international working environment.
He said various socially excluded communities have been provided an opportunity in the training and this reflected the commitment to rendering the UN inclusive.
The UN has conducted three such trainings before this.
