Nepalgunj, Nov 2: Child Laborers continue to work in Banke district which was declared child laborer-free in 2007.

Around 3,000 child laborers are still found working in many of the hotels and factories here.

In view of this, the District Child Welfare Board in collaboration with the International Non-Governmental Offices in the districts has initiated a campaign to make the district visibly a child laborer-free place.

According to government statistics, children below nine years comprise five percent of child laborer while those between 10 to 14 years make 60 percent of the total child laborer in Banke.

Similarly, the teenagers between 14 to 17 percent constitute more than 40 % of the on-the-job child laborers.

This staggering number of child laborers found working in the ‘child laborer-free district has posed a question on the credibility of the declaration made by the concerned authority.
