A simple camera in lottery makes one millionaire

Dhurkot, Gulmi, May 7– A simple camera received in a lottery while toiling in India has made Nandaram Pandey of Gulmi, a millionaire.

 He had received a camera in a lottery in 2034 BS and now he is owner of a photo studio in Tamghas of Gulmi, with a property of tens of millions of rupees.

Born in Bhagawati-9 in Arghakhanchi district, he started the business of photo studio around that time and now has become successful and exemplary by running studio for the past 35 years amid suspicions whether it would run at all.

   His Pandey Photo Studio is famous from then up to now. He had started business after learning the skills for two years after getting the camera and became owner of a studio himself.Pandey in his grey hair among young photographers is still active and expressed happiness that his camera was thanked by personalities from the late King Birendra to BP Koirala when they came to Gulmi.

   He has now a three-story house in Tamghas’s busy bus park and house plots nearby. His neighbor Gopal Bhusal says his house would cost Rs. 15 million and plots Rs. 5 million. He has decorated his studio with photos of King Birendra, BP Koirala, and kings and prime ministers coming later and it looks like a museum.

 “Even I  was told by my land lord someday to evacuate the room as I could not pay the rent, but struggle has made me a man, I give credit to my wife Dhanadevi for success of business when she took the responsibly when I was out,” he said.

 Eldest of his three sons is in furniture trade in Bhairahawa and the second one helps in his profession and the youngest Arjun is studying. He recalls his was the only studio in Gulmi district headquarters, but there are now 40 here and double that number in the district.
