Kathmandu, April 19: Seven different political parties including the opposition UCPN (Maoist) have decided to work together to promulgate the identity-based federalism within a year.
At a meeting held in UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s residence today, the seven opposition parties decided to move ahead together to ensure the progressive issues in the new constitution concluding that people’s agendas were shadowed and chances of addressing the aspirations of changes were slim.
Talking to RSS after the meeting, General Secretary of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic) said the leaders agreed to make a single voice to incorporate the concerns raised by the people during People’s War, People’s Movement, Madhes movement and all other political, cultural and linguistic movements in the new constitution.
According to Dev, the like-minded parties in and outside the Constituent Assembly (CA) would forge an alliance to ensure people’s concerns, pro-people constitution, federalism with identity and constitution with federalism.
“We have agreed that serious understanding is needed between the parties having similar agendas. The next meeting will give a concrete shape to the same,” Dev added.
The meeting has also decided to come up with a single voice on formation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Enforced Disappearances Commission.
