Kathmandu, April 16: The main opposition party UCPN (Maoist) has obstructed today’s meeting of Legislature-Parliament, accusing the government of intending to derail the peace process by reviving the wartime cases.

Party leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai, at the outset, expressed concerns over the filing of a charge sheet against 13 people, demanding life imprisonment along with confiscation of all property for their alleged involvement in the Fujel incident dating back to the decade-long armed conflict in the country.

The peace process has not completely ended as the task of forming the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Commission on Disappearances, political management and social transformation are left to be executed, he said, protesting the government move.

He warned of obstructing the House business until the government withdraws the case from the court.  Following the UCPN (M) protests, Speaker Subash Nembang announced the postponement of the meeting for an hour.

The report of the Special Security Committee, the name list of members on the Public Accounts Committee, a proposal of public interest about the problems facing Nepali migrant workers and Inquiry into the Disappeared and TRC Bill -2070 BS were to be tabled in the parliament meeting.

It may be noted that Krishna Prasad Adhikari of Fujel, Gorkha was killed by the then Maoist cadres on June 6, 2004 when the country was in emergency and the Chitwan Office of Government Attorney few days ago filed a case against 13 people at the District Court on the accusation of their involvement in the killing of Krishna Prasad.
