Kathmandu, April 14: Chairman of Unified CPN Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal today warned that the nation could plunge into a prachanda 2serious confrontation if the government failed to express its commitment on Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Talking a select group of journalist at his Lazimpat-based residence this afternoon former Prime Minister Dahal expressed serious concern over the action against the innocent people on Fujel incident though CPN UML’s Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam was positive on holding the case till the TRC was ready. “If the parties having won few more seats in the election attempt to push us away forcibly things will not be more complicated,”

Dahal said adding that his party was not for confrontation anymore but the coalition partners must work in a responsible manner. He said Prime Minister Sushil Koirala was more rigid on the Fujel incident claiming that would help the government to show Geneva that his government is doing something on human rights. Dahal said a balanced bill has been tabled at the parliament on TRC which neither talk about blanket amnesty nor punishment to all the culprits. “Some media are trying to do business by raising such issues unnecessarily,”

he said. Why is HLPC essential? Chairman Dahal said the meeting of the three parties held at the PM Sushil Koirala’s residence in Baluwatar recently had finalized even the Term of Reference on High Level Political Committee. Earlier several parties including the Madhesh-based and Janajati parties had decided to form the HLPC. Dahal said NC was trying to backtrack from its stance lately claiming that the structure of similar nature was not needed inside and outside the CA. However, UCPN-M has been pushing for the HLPC with several logics and arguments. Dahal said many of the tasks of the peace process were yet to be completed and that was not possible with the committee formed inside the CA.

“Secondly the country is still in the transition phase and everything must go as directed by the 12 point agreement, Comprehensive Peace Accord and Interim Constitution. Nation cannot move ahead on merely the arithmetic calculations. Management of the transitional politics is essential,”

he said. He further said the HLPC was also necessary to create conducive environment to draft the new constitution even by bringing the 33-parties front including CPN-M on board. Dahal further said there was no dispute on giving the leadership of Constitutional-Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee to UCPN-M. Three committees will be led by three major parties and the remaining two committees will be given to other parties organising a meeting with other parties.

“After deciding the parties to lead the committees, they will give the name for the leadership and one party will not intervene on another party’s internal decision.” He also said the party’s national conference will begin on the scheduled date most probably at Biratnagar and will endorse all the agendas unanimously.
