
Kathmandu, 7 April – Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has expanded the existing Council of Ministers inducting three new members representing the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and the CPN (ML).
Sunil Bahadur Thapa from RPP and Nilam KC Khadka from CPN (ML) have been inducted into the Cabinet as ministers. Thapa has been given the commerce and supplies portfolio and Khadka the women, children and social welfare portfolio.
In the presence of President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Koirala administered the oath of office and secrecy to Thapa and Khadka at a ceremony organised at the President’s House, Sheetal Niwas today.
Also present on the occasion were the Vice President Paramananda Jha, Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh, ministers, the government chief secretary, RPP president Surya Bahadur Thapa, CPN (ML) general secretary CP Mainali, among other distinguished persons.
The newly-appointed Minister for Commerce and Supplies Thapa was elected to the Constituent Assembly (CA) from Dhankuta. He is the son of RPP president Surya Bahadur Thapa.
The newly-appointed Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Khadka is the CPN (ML)’s CA member under the proportional representation quota.
Prime Minister Koirala first expanded the Council of Ministers on February 25 after his election as the head of the government on February 11.
