Bardibas, Jan. 29: Police have initiated action against two men who issued death threats to as many journalists in Mahottari district.

Action has been initiated against Sanjaya Neupane of Bardibas-7 and Devraj Kafle of the same area on the charge of misbehaving and issuing death threats to Gita Chimoriya and  Santosh Pokhrel, the Ilaka Police Office, Bardibas said.

Chimoriya works at Radio Darpan, a community radio station based at local Gauribas, and The Public Today, a daily newspaper published from Gaushala while Pokhrel works at the Bardibas Khabar Dainik, a daily newspaper.

Neupane and Kafle are being tried under the Public Offence Act, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Area Police Office Bardibas, Hari Prasad Sharma, said. It is said that the two had gone to the Radio Darpan’s office and verbally abused journalist Chimoriya and threatened to kill her while doing the same to Pokhrel on his mobile phone.

Neupane and Kafle are learnt to have done this over news titled ‘Two Killed, Three Injured in Road Accident’ which was broadcast on Radio Darpan and carried by The Public Today last Thursday.

There was a huge public outcry against the incident and the media-related organisations in the district had denounced the verbal attack on journalists. RSS
