Parliament meeting: Govt tables five ordinances

Kathmandu, 27 Jan – The government has tabled five different ordinances in the meeting of the Legislature-Parliament today.

Minister for Home Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire presented four different ordinances pertaining to the Constituent Assembly election. The ordinances tabled by Minister Ghimire in the meeting today are the Ordinance Amending Some Nepal Acts Related to Election, 2013, the Ordinance on Election of the Members of the Constituent Assembly, 2013; the Ordinance on Election of the Constituent Assembly Members (First Amendment), 2013; and the Constituent Assembly Members Election (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2013.

Similarly, Finance Minister Shankar Prasad Koirala tabled the Money Laundering Control (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2013.

The President had issued all these ordinances on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers in the absence of the Parliament. There is a constitutional provision which says that the ordinances should be passed by the Parliament within six months of issuing them.

The meeting of the Parliament which was to convene at 11 am commenced nearly half an hour late and continued its proceedings for 10 minutes. Senior-most member of the Parliament Surya Bahadur Thapa chaired the meeting.

The Parliament will next meet at 11 am tomorrow (January 28).
