Kathmandu, Jan. 7: The Directorate of Livestock Services has lifted the ban on the transport of live birds imposed in different districts.

The ban has been lifted in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavre, Rupandehi, Sindhupalchok, Makawanpur, Kaski and Nawalparasi districts.

The Directorate had prohibited the transport of live birds in these districts as a measure to check the spread of bird flu seen in these districts on various dates.

Director at the Central Regional Livestock Services Directorate, Dr Damodar Sedhain gave this information to RSS.

Sedhain said that poultry farmers and traders in these districts have resumed their business as usual.

The Directorate, on August 14, 2013, declared the districts in the Kathmandu Valley as ‘bird flu affected area’ and culled chicks and destroyed eggs and poultry products with the sudden outbreak of bird flu.

It has also lifted the ‘bird flu affected area’ declaration with effect from December 18, 2013.

The Directorate has also prepared a ‘Poultry Keeping Guidelines, 2014’ for making the poultry business further systematic and well-managed. The guidelines contains safe poultry keeping policy. RSS
