Kathmandu, Dec. 28: The CPN (UML) on Saturday presented the name list of candidates nominated under the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system to the Election Commission.

The party has won 84 PR seats in the November 19 Constituent Assembly (CA) election.  A delegation headed by party secretary Bishnu Prasad Poudel presented the PR candidates’ name list to the EC.

The party standing committee meeting that ran for three days finalized the name list.

Only 30 political parties have secured their place in the new CA. So far 15 political parties have submitted the final name list (elected) of PR candidates to the EC. The party, however, is yet to unveil the final name list of PR candidates formally.

According to party secretary Poudel, provision of inclusiveness and prevailing rules and regulations were followed while nominating the candidates representing the party in the new CA under the PR system. Women, dalits, ethnic groups, Madhesis and backward communities were given a priority while choosing the candidates.

EC Spokesperson Bir Bahadur Rai said the Commission will first study the closed PR name list presented by the party and take further decision about it. RSS
