Kathmandu, Dec. 27: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has removed the parking charge for vehicles in the municipality areas from today.

With this, vehicle owners would not have to pay the parking charge for parking their vehicles in the designated KMC areas. The KMC implemented this rule from today for the convenience of the city dwellers.

The rule has been brought into implementation with the objective of preventing the KMC denizens from unnecessary cheating after different organisations and clubs started taking parking charges from service recipients in arbitrary manner.

Before this, one had to pay Rs. 10 for motorcycle parking and Rs. 20 for four-wheel vehicle parking, but employees deployed at the parking areas were not found to be responsible when parked vehicles got lost.

The KMC had given some 75 parking lots in the metropolitan city on contract to different contractors for the parking, but parking areas were set-up in other places too without its permission.

The KMC had planned to implement the rule from December 1 but the Appellate Court issued a stay order after the entrepreneurs lodged a case against the rule at the Court.

Spokesperson at the KMC, Shantaram Pokhrel, said that the rule has been brought into force from today after the court on Thursday gave a verdict in favour of the KMC.

He said that KMC dwellers would get relief from cheating taking place while parking their vehicles and added that vehicle owners would be fined if they parked their vehicles in the No Parking Zone. RSS
