Golbazaar (Siraha), Dec. 26: A cold wave has descended in the Tarai plains, pushing temperature further down and affecting life in the region including in Siraha district.

The elderly and the children have been affected the most by the biting cold. Dense fog has been occurring since the last two days blocking the sun.

The District Traffic Police Office, Siraha has also cautioned drivers to limit the speed of their vehicles in view of this. People are seen huddled around campfires lit at different places in the town and in the villages. Less number of people are seen in the market with the growing cold.

Similarly, the number of students at schools has decreased within the last few days. It may be recalled here that 14 people died of hypothermia in winter in the district last year. Similarly, the cold wave has affected normal life in Udayapur district since the last four days.

The cold wave usually starts from 2 a.m. and lasts until around noon, locals said. Meanwhile, in Janakpur, different local and community organisations of Dhanusha district have made arrangements for lighting campfires at 19 places in the town to keep warm amidst the chilly weather.

The Janakpur Municipality has provided 50 quintals of firewood for this purpose. The District Administration Office is spreading public messages through media on ways of protecting oneself from cold. RSS
