Rajbiraj, Dec. 25: A bridge over the Ghod Daha River at Simraha Singhiyoun VDC, Saptari district, has cracked twice within a year of its construction.

It is said that the bridge has developed cracks due to the use of substandard materials in its construction.

The bridge came into operation since mid-July, 2012, first cracked within a few months of the construction and was repaired. It has again developed cracks.

The bridge was constructed at a cost of Rs. 10.07 million with the financial support of the Asian Development Bank and the government as per the Commercial Agriculture Development Project.

People from around two dozen VDCs use this bridge frequently.

Local people claimed that the bridge cracked as the project used substandard materials with the involvement of officials at the Commercial Agricultural Alliance, District Development Committee (DDC), and some members of the users’ group.

DDC, Saptari, has also realized the weaknesses in the construction and given assurances to repair the bridge soon. RSS
