Bhairahawa, Dec. 25: The District Monitoring Committee has allowed extraction of crusher-related materials in Rupandehi.

The external extraction of crusher materials has been banned since a long time back.A recently-held meeting of the monitoring committee headed by Chief District Officer made the decision to this effect. The release of sands and concretes has been made open in Rupandehi despite disagreement among its members.

Chief District Officer Bal Krishna Panthi had called an all party and all-side meeting to lift ban on external extraction of river-produced substances.

‘The process to open extraction will start soon’, said Local Development Officer of Rupandehi Pesal Kumar Pokharel. However, district police chief and member of the committee SP Bikram Singh Thapa expressed dissent to the committee’s decision to that end.

‘The re-assessment of the stock of materials should be carried out first before giving permission for extraction. The police would not obstruct the process if it is in line with the government decision. But police would not allow anyone to do unlawful activities’, he said.

He went on saying, ‘The Tinau river would ruin human settlements in thousands of bighas of land here if permission for extracting concretes from the river was given on whimsical decision’.

Police do not agree allowing the extraction of crusher materials without assessing previous stock. RSS
