Chitwan, Dec. 20:  The mustard production is expected to increase in Chitwan this year. The district is considered a pocket area for mustard production in the country.

Mustard yield is expected to go up in the district this year with timely rainfall and availability of fertilizers during plantation season, it is learnt.

The mustard has been planted in some 12,000 hectares of land this year alone which was in 11,700 hectares last year, said the District Agriculture Development Office.

The District Agriculture Development Office has provided some 30 metric tons of subsidized mustard seeds and fertilizers to serve its target to increase production in the district, said Nodnath Lamichhane, assistant technician at the office.

With the sharp fall in production, farmers here had almost abandoned doing mustard farming. The situation grew differently when they get subsidized seeds and fertilizers, said office sources.

Farmers have been increasingly interested to cultivate mustard when they see it would be much yielding.

As many as 10,413 metric tons of mustard was produced in Chitwan last year. The office has set the target to increase it by 15 per cent this year, said Raja Ram Adhikari, in-charge of the office. RSS
