IFC to invest in energy sector in Nepal

Kathmandu, Dec. 19: Finance Minister Shanker Prasad Koirala has said that support would be made to bring the bond in local currency if expertise of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) were utilized.

At a meeting with the South Asian Director of the IFC Serge Devieux, Minister Koirala said that directive and procedure would be unveiled as early as possible as policy-level decision has been made to that end.

Minister Koirala expressed confidence that such economic tools would help in construction of the mega projects due to long-term investments.

Koirala also said that other projects of the same nature would be lured due to IFC investment in the energy sector.

On the occasion, the Regional Director of the IFC expressed willingness to invest in the energy sector.

The bond in local currency would become a success in Nepal too due to the success story in India.

Director Serge said that the development partners are encouraged after the peaceful, fair and partial Constituent Assembly (CA) elections. RSS
