Kathmandu, Dec. 19: The ongoing Central Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress on Thursday discussed formation of government, constitution writing, election, criteria to select proportional candidates, and the immediate functioning of the Constituent Assembly.

The central members speaking Thursday stressed the need to have formal agreement in the party before forging consensus with other political parties and address other parties’ demands by making the new CA functional.

They suggested the party leadership to adopt inclusion while selecting leaders for the proportional quota of the CA.

Spokesperson of the party, Dilendra Prasad Badu, said the central members speaking at today’s meeting focused on expediting talks with the disgruntled parties and forming the CA soon. According to him, the leaders expressed concern over delay in the selection of the proportional candidates.

“NC needs to take a lead in constitution writing by forging consensus with dissenting parties,” he added.

Meanwhile, central member Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat said the news that Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala and UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had made an agreement was baseless.

However, he said there was general assumption that Nepali Congress could form government taking the UML together, as the two parties had somehow similar agenda during the CA election.

Spokesperson Badu said as some central members were still waiting for their turn to speak in the meeting, it would continue for some more days. RSS
