Kanchanpur, Dec. 18: The maternal and new born child mortality rate is found high in Kanchanpur despite implementation of safer motherhood programme.

The mortality rate is on the rise due to lack of public awareness in performing child delivery in health facilities and delay to take the mother with labour pain to hospital for safe delivery,

According to Kanchanpur District Public Health Office, total 54 new born children and four nursing mothers had lost their lives here in previous fiscal year of 2068-69 while the number is 56 and 6 in 2069-70.

It has been found that the new born child mortality is mostly caused by shivering, respiratory problems, suffocation, early delivery, under weight and nutrition deficit, said Public Health Nurse Pashupati Singh.

Similarly, major causes behind the death incidents of nursing mother include delay to take them to hospital or health facilities, haphazard delivery at home, excessive bleeding and hospital negligence, she said. RSS
