GOVERNMENT HONOURS NATIONAL CRICKET TEAM

Kathmandu, Dec.16: The government has honoured the Nepali cricket team which has been selected to the T20 world cup cricket tournament going to be held in Bangladesh next year.

The Nepali cricketers’ team attained the third position in the T20 qualify match held in the United Arab Emirates recently, booking its place in the world cup for the first time in the history. This success of Nepali cricketers is taken as the first biggest achievement of Nepal in the sports sector.

Chairman of Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi honoured the team amidst a special programme at his office Monday with a cash prize of Rs. one million each.

Paras Khadka (captain), Subash Khakurel, Anil Kumar Mandal, Gyanendra Malla, Mahesh Khakurel, Pradeep Aidi, Sagar Pun, Sharad Bheswakar, Basanta Regmi, Basanta Regmi, Amrit Bhattarai, Rahul BK, Abinash Karna, Shakti Gauchan and Jitendra Mukhiya are in the team.

Similarly, team coach Pubudu Dasnayake received a cash prize of Rs. 500,000 and letter of appreciation and manager Purna Bahadur Lama, physiotherapist Hiraswami Sukrawanyam and technical assistant received Rs. 350,000 each.

The Cabinet meeting earlier decided to honour the Nepali cricketers with cash prize for their historic achievement in the international tournament.

Addressing the programme, Chairman Regmi said the nation and national cricket team has more responsibility and challenges in the days ahead and urged the team to go with necessary preparations for the world cup.

Minister for Youth and Sports Ram Kumar Shrestha assured that budget in the sports sector will be increased in the future.

Nepali cricketers’ team captain Paras Khadka sought moral and financial support from the government for better performance in the world cup.

Nepali cricket team is leaving the country tomorrow for Sri Lanka to play practice match. The team is also scheduled to play in the world cup qualifying match going to be held in New Zealand. RSS
