Kathmandu, Dec. 15: The Unified CPN (Maoist) has drawn a conclusion that the consensus system should be adopted for drafting a new constitution.

A meeting of former politburo member and state committees coordinators of the Unified CPN (Maoist) held at the party headquarters, Parisdanda, on Sunday, drew the conclusion that the parties including Nepali Congress and CPN-UML should agree on drafting constitution by replacing the constitutional provision of majority system with consensus one.

The consensus system could deliver pro-public constitution, the meeting noted, calling for the commitment from other parties to take ownership of past agreements and works completed by earlier Constituent Assembly (CA).

Emerging out of the meeting, party Spokesperson Agni Sapkota said the party should be ready to take consensus into consideration if other parties come up with commitment to this effect.

The former politburo members stressed that the party should take its earlier stand of forming high-level commission to investigate into the November 19 CA election fraud.

On the occasion, party leaders recommended that party’s relation with people should be institutionalized on new bases and party’s working style should be amended in he changed context.

The meeting also raised the issue of immediately forming the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate into the war-era cases. RSS
