Kathmandu, Dec. 13: Eighteen political parties including the Unified CPN (Maoist) have decided to not budge from their earlier stance of remaining outside the Constituent Assembly (CA) until the formation of high-level independent commission to probe the alleged election rigging.

The meeting held at the UCPN (Maoist)’s central office, Parisdanda, on Friday, decided neither to recommend any candidate under Proportional Representation (PR) from their side nor to participate in the Constituent Assembly (CA), said General Secretary of Federal Socialist Party (FSP) Rajendra Shrestha.

The Election Commission (EC) has set the deadline of December 17 to submit the PR list of candidates. The EC has extended the timeline at the request of the political parties.

On the occasion, UCPN (Maoist) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal briefed the meeting about the discussion held at the meeting of the high-level political committee.

We will move ahead accordingly if the parties including Nepali Congress and CPN-UML are likely to agree the formation of the commission in the HLPC meeting to take place on December 15 and there is alternative to go for struggle if they are not ready to accept the proposal, Shrestha quoted Dahal as saying.

Dahal stressed that dialogue and negotiation among the political parties would be given high premium and protest programme would go accordingly.

Likewise, the meeting also dwelt on the issue of constituting federal democratic alliance and decided that every party would pass the proposal from their party central committee meeting.

Some 18 parties including UCPN (Maoist), Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum, Terai-Madhes Loktantrik Party, Federal Socialist Party and Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (Republic) attended the meeting. RSS
