Kathmandu, Dec. 13: The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice in the name of government asking it to be present before the court within three days along with the agreement reached with the Chairperson of the Janatantrik Tarai Madhesh Mukti Party Arjun Singh alias Bhagat Singh, and the receipt of the weapons he submitted.

A single bench of Justice Ram Kumar Prasad Shah issued the order on Friday, also asking the Government to ensure Shah’s access to his family members and lawyer at the Banke prison.

The order was issued in response to a writ petition filed on Thursday by Mahesh Singh Sodi, the son of Bhagat demanding a habeas corpus order with the argument that his father was illegally arrested even following a peace accord reached with government.

According to the writ, the Party held various rounds of talks with the government since the latter’s call for peace talks on January 25, 2012. The talks had ended with a five-point agreement on August 4, 2012 and the party handing over its weapons to the government.

The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction, the Ministry of Home, the Police Headquarters, District Police Office and the District Administration Office have been named as defendants in the writ. RSS
